Agriculture is the largest industry in the state with high production of soybeans, corn, wheat, hay, sunflowers, ethanol, rye, honey, cattle, bison, and pheasants. Ninety-eight percent of the state’s farms are family-owned and operated. Other major industries include manufacturing, defense, financial services, and tourism. Manufactured products account for $1.3B in exports including processed foods, machinery, and transportation equipment. Cybersecurity is a growing industry in South Dakota at the intersection of Defense and Financial Services.
