They say the most successful pitches in business history fit on a napkin. Here's some interesting "back of a co*cktail napkin" stats I was able to share recently with some economic investors and colleagues about the future of Johnston County. As reported in the Brookings Institute, and recently by the released figures from the U.S. Census Bureau a year ago, Johnston County’s 27.8 percent growth rate places the County as one of the fastest-growing areas in North Carolina. Currentlythe County isapproachinga population of260,000with the expectations of surpassing 300,000 within the next 4 years. This is due to the close proximity to Raleigh, the 3 major research universities, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), the Research Triangle Park and the excellent transportation links. With the transition of US70 to Interstate 42 that will be completed by the 4Q - 2024 in Johnston County, the completed widening of Interstate 40 from 4 lanes to 8 lanes, the projected September 2024 completion of the I540 Southern loop...along with the continued growth of Raleigh/Wake, (of which Johnston is part of their MSA)this growth may come quicker than mentioned.Taking the above into account, with a 3.5% annual growth rate, which is below the 15 year average, Johnston County's projected population will then be over 430,000 by 2040… Over 610,000 by the year 2050. (Which by the way was the same population of Wake County in 2000.) Puts a whole new meaning to #GrowWithJoCo Research Triangle Regional Partnership (RTRP) BioPharma Crescent

Trends show that the incredible growth seen here in Johnston County over the last couple of decades will only continue well into the future. Staying ahead of the "transportation curve" has never been more critical. The Town of Clayton and the Johnston County Government are both working through updating their Comprehensive Transportation Plan. Collaborating with NCDOT, these reports will assist leadership to properly address future transportation pressure points before it reaches a critical state. #GrowWithJoCo Kim Deaner, Brett Knese, WRAL, R. Last evening, I was fortunate to attend the annual Johnston Now Magazine “JNow Honors” awards ceremony at the Broadslab Distillery Event Center. Blake – Veterans Service Award, Activate Selma – Nonprofit of the Year, and my economic development support and trusted sidekick, Joy Callahan – Spirit of the County. Congratulations to all the recipients and a big thank you to the sponsors for making this event possible.During the event, Kim Wooten from the Activate Selma group shared an inspiring message, "We don’t plan, we just do." While planning is crucial, the proactive approach of Activate Selma has brought immense benefits to the Downtown district and the small businesses in "Uptown Selma."As Joy Callahan rightly pointed out, if this was the Oscars, then the Town of Selma truly shined that evening. It's evident that the dedication and hard work of these individuals and organizations are making a significant impact on the community. Cheers to their commitment and accomplishments!Thank you Randy Capps and Shanna Capps for making this event possible.

This evening, I had the honor of attending the Town of Selma, NC celebration of the importance of Rail for our community and region... as well as 100th Anniversary of the Historic Selma Union Station. Here in Johnston County, we are fortunate to have both CSX and Norfolk Southern having a strong presence in our area. Railroads support businesses, manufacturers and farmers, which can create jobs, connect industries to consumers, and foster local growth. This does not include passenger rail service which support local businesses like hotels, restaurants, and shops.

(Annual Post ... apologies for the repeat) July 5..... 1972 to 1983. While other kids may have had and enjoyed the traditional summer vacation or camp, this annual date in history was the beginning of my youth growing up. Archery, canoeing, drama, arts & crafts was not on the list of my activities in Fuquay-Varina. Yeah, we had swimming and field games. But our swimming was in the family pond or in the above ground swimming pool at Grandma's after spending 8 to 10 hours in a tobacco field. Starting my summer employment at .50 an hour to "put on sticks", then moving up to $1.50 to drive the tractor....and finally reaching $4.00 an hour to prime tobacco. It was hot, it was dirty, it was backbreaking, it was miserable... but I was surrounded by family and cousins. There's something to be said about hard work and building character. I wouldn't say it made me who I am today, but it surely is a big piece of my life's puzzle. As I reflect back on my youth, I do it with a smile and amazement... and wouldn't trade it for anything. The History of Tobacco Barns in North Carolina | Our State (https://lnkd.in/gN26VaS4)

With less than an hour left in the workday, hundreds of thousands are gearing up to hit the road for an extended July 4th holiday weekend. Transportation's vital role in the regional socio-economic complex cannot be overstated, facilitating the movement of goods and people, directly impacting the Triangle’s economy. In Johnston County, the recent completion of the widening of I40 into Raleigh/Wake, along with the upcoming opening of the 540 Southern Loopsection, are two of the most critical transportation projects. News outlets report the goal is to have it operational before the Labor Day Weekend, if not sooner. Johnston County is and will continue to be at the epicenter of growth. Proper planning and maintaining quality of life and vehicular safety for residences is paramount. In my opinion, the impact of this project will be monumental. The Johnston County NC - Economic Development office has monitoring the construction of I40, the I540 "Southern Loop" and the US70 (Future I42) interchange with aerial drone video footage monthly.
